My love of collecting mother and child portraits is already well documented, but even more than collecting – I love photographing them.
There can never be too many new baby and mama pictures. Babies change and grow so quickly, and the mutual love and adoration must be documented. One of the very best gifts I’ve ever received was a session with a photographer I admired (Donna Leicht in Appleton). Our budget only allowed for the stack of 4×6 printed proofs – but I am so thankful for those images. I’m grateful that now I have the opportunity to do this for other families.
The next time you visit a new mom and baby, be sure to offer to take a few snapshots… even if it is just on a phone. She will appreciate the thought, even if she doesn’t take you up on it. Mothers are usually behind the camera lens, and don’t often have the chance to be in front of it. These photos will not only be a treasure to the mother, but to the child as he grows.
“She is their earth, she is their food and their bed and the extra blanket when it grows cold in the night; she is their warmth and their health and their shelter.” -Katherine Butler Hathaway
